TransTints are formulated from light stable metallized acid dyes. They are more lightfast when compared to conventional aniline powdered type dye stains. This unique concentrated formulation allows the user great latitude in using the dye because it is compatible with a wide variety of finishing products. The dye can be mixed with either water or alcohol as a bare stain on wood - or added directly to finishing materials like shellac and lacquer to make toners or stains.
No waiting or straining is necessary because the dye compound is pre-dissolved!

Love these dyes, stains. I can cut with water or solvent to make it weak or strong. I can also mix colors. I like to add brown to my vintage amber to lessen the yellow. Great stuff and great company.

Transtint is great but VeneerSupplies.com is better. There are other dyes out there but only one VeneerSupplies.com, quick delivery and fair prices! People should take a look at the supplier they use and their prices on this one and realize they are often being overcharged by their go to store for various other products as well. I have a few in mind but...

TransTint stains are my go to stains for everything! I stain a lot of flame maple for guitar tops and have found that they are the best. I love to stain, let the wood dry then sand back. When I put on the next coat, the figure just POPS! I just ordered the few colors that I didn't have in the shop, now I have every color that they offer. Can't wait to get the creative juices flowing! Oh by the way , Veneer Supplies has the lowest price per bottle that I have seen, even lower than Amazon!

For best results as a toner, dissolve in a very small amount of acetone or other "hot" solvent before adding to your finish.
Test everything first - quantity, color, write yourself a recipe, measure very carefully because this dye is thin and comes out of the container very quickly, put a pinhole in the top - don't cut it off, add a drop at a time, wear gloves, repeat: wear nitrile gloves. Downsides: this is a metallic base dye and any liquid, including perspiration or oil from your hands, that touches it before a finish is applied, will give a color change. Color change can be sanded out with 400 paper. Use it by-the-book and you can achieve beautiful results. A professional-grade superior product. FYI, solvent base products are not available in CA and this is as close as I have found to one that will combine with acrylic lacquer and it's solvent: Xylene / Xylol, but works best(dissolves more completely) first dissolved in a small amount of acetone. Note specs for what materials it is NOT compatible with. Works well in acrylic lacquer satin finish contrary to their labeling. Mix a quantity, by recipe, NOT in the full can of finish. Very difficult to lighten or "un-dye" after application.

Transtint always does an excellent job for me. Delivery was fast with excellent communication. Used this as a tint in lacquer on walnut to bring out the color a bit more with great results.
