VS Extreme™ is the ultimate vacuum bag. Each bag is made from an extra-thick (30 mil) polyurethane material that has been designed for VeneerSupplies.com using an advanced thermoplastic capable of withstanding pressures exceeding 3,750 PSI and stretching more than 6 times its width and length*. VS Extreme vacuum bags offer superior resilience and unmatched puncture resistance. Made in the USA.
Each bag is welded with a state-of-the-art custom RF welding machine operating at 7,000 watts and 50 lb/in of pressure. This exact combination of frequency and clamp strength yields the most durable and airtight seam available. Each bag then undergoes a series of inspections including a final check that I do prior to shipment.
*Elongation and breaking strength based on ASTM D412 test method.
Critical Information: Updated Stem Fitting

Product Notes
Breather Mesh Option
Be sure to order breather mesh with your vacuum bag. It eliminates the need for a grooved top platen board which can often be heavy and difficult to set over a project panel. The mesh prevents the trapping of air pockets inside the bag that cause veneer bubbles, and it makes it much easier to remove any glue that seeps through the veneer face. Learn more about breather mesh on this page of the JoeWoodworker website.
Free Shipping on Breather Mesh
The shipping charge for breather mesh can be quite expensive, but we have a way to save you some money. There is no additional shipping charge on breather mesh when ordered along with a vacuum bag using the option menu above. This discount does not apply if the mesh is ordered from the product page.
How do I attach my vacuum tube to this bag?
Our lock-on connector is required to connect a vacuum tube to this vacuum bag. This connector is included with all of our vacuum press kits.
Do I need a top and bottom platen for the vacuum bag?
A bottom platen is required for flat panel work. Most large home centers offer 3/4" thick melamine board, which works very well. The bottom platen does not need to have grooves cut into it. Breather mesh placed over the veneer panel is typically easier than using a top platen - which can be heavy and awkward. Breather mesh also makes it easier to remove glue bleed-through on the veneer.
How large should I make the bottom platen?
The platen should match the nominal size of the bag. In other words, if you have a 4' x 6' vacuum bag, then the bottom platen should be 48" x 72".
Can I put a small project in a large vacuum bag?
Yes. There is no harm using a large bag to press a small project.
If I use a large vacuum bag for a small project, do I need to seal off the unused area inside?
No. Generally speaking, there isn't much "loose" or "free" air inside the unused part of a vacuum bag. If you are using a large bag for a small project, there is not much to be gained by closing off the unused area with a secondary bag closure.
Can I press multiple projects in a single bag at the same time?
Yes. Small panels can be set side by side in a large vacuum bag. Use breather mesh over each panel instead of a top platen. You can also stack identical sized projects on top of one another if a piece of wax paper is placed between them. This will prevent glue squeeze-out from bonding the panels to each other. Be careful not to stack so many panels inside that it causes the bag seams to pull apart.
Does the vacuum bag have to stay connected to the vacuum press after full vacuum is achieved?
Yes. This is because a perfect seal on a vacuum bag is virtually impossible. Here are some things to consider...
If the vacuum system is disconnected from the bag, you won't know if there is a leak because there is no vacuum gauge in/on the bag. With the bag connected to a vacuum press system, the vacuum level is visible on system gauge. The vacuum inside the system is the same amount of vacuum inside the bag. If the vacuum press cycles on and off frequently during a project pressing, a leak can be recognized and then fixed. However, if the leak can not be immediately repaired, then at least the system can try to maintain the correct vacuum level in the bag until the panel is finished.
Can I use this bag with a vacuum press from a different company?
To use this vacuum bag with a vacuum press from another manufacturer, you may simply need to remove the existing connector on the vacuum tube and replace it with our "new" style lock-on connector.
Does epoxy stick to this polyurethane material?
I have experimented with our polyurethane material using several brands of epoxy, and it released from the test samples without issue. However, I have received differing opinions about this from our customers, and my guess is that it depends on the type of epoxy, how much epoxy comes in contact with the material, and how often the vacuum bag is used in this capacity.
One of our customers recently wrote...
"We're using West epoxy, and have had zero problems with the material sticking to the bags. Just pops right off. We're using it neat, and also with microfiber thickeners, and I can say there's no need to worry about sticking with West epoxy and these polyurethane bags." - Kenny Delapp, Albuquerque Joinery
Do you offer samples of this polyurethane material?
Yes. Please click here for details.
What else should I know about the bag?
The maximum project size that is listed for this bag is approximate. It may vary by one inch due to tolerances in the manufacturing process. The maximum project size also depends on the total thickness of the platen and project. The usable size of the project panel can be maximized by using breather mesh instead of a top platen. It is critically important to avoid using a platen that is too large for the bag, which will cause the seams to pull apart.

This is a great vacuum bag for the money. Bought on the Feb 5th and it arrived on the 8th. The company is very responsive to customer service questions too. Highly recommended for its quality and price.

This is the second vacuum bag I have ordered from Veneer Supplies and it works fantastic. I've had my first bag for almost 3 years now and it's working as good as the day I bought it. The quick connect system is also great, easy to use and leak free. I can not recommend Veneer Supplies products enough.

I have both Elite and Extreme variants of these bags, and they're an absolute pleasure to use. Granted I've never had other bags prior to owning these, but from seeing veneering videos online I expected I'd have to baby them more, close them a certain way, or and just fiddle with them a lot more. Nope, none of that nonsense - I just put the mesh and platen in the bag, slide the project between the mesh and platen, roll up the bag, connect the hose and walk away. They're a pleasure to use, and I expect to get lots of years from them!

I've been using this polyurethane bag for about a month and can say that it is impressive. The material appears to be very resilient based on the number of times I've used it with a project with sharp curves. When I disengage the vacuum, the polyurethane goes right back to being flat again. I'd happily purchase this bag again if I had to and I highly recommend it over vinyl.

I would give this vacuum bag 10 stars if I could! I have tortured this bag with all kinds of projects from flat panels to obtuse 3D polygons for artsy projects. It still looks and works like new. There are only a few tools in my workshop they have been as reliable as this bag and the vacuum press I bought here years ago. I'm writing this review about a minute before I buy my second vacuum bag on this website so I can run two at once. The owner of this site is very responsive and willing to help if you have questions. I give it 10 stars!

This is the first review I have ever written, but I am doing it because my polyurethane vac bag has proven itself over and over. It has been used for a few years on small projects and larger ones. I actually put a desktop jewelry box in this bag to get a veneer on top and it worked perfect. Breather mesh is also helpful to have. I won't press a project without it. My bag is still soft and flexible after all this time. This was a great purchased along with my press kit.

High quality material that will outlast other poly bags. Perfect size for my small shop and layup dimensions. Will definitely recommend this to other woodworkers in my area!

This bag works perfectly. I'm new to using high quality veneers in my box-making business and I ordered this based on Joe's recommendation, which BTW his recommendations are always spot on. The bag is perfect for the Excel 1 System which I also purchased. I was pressing veneer for a box that day with excellent results. I picked up breather mesh to go along with the system. Five stars all the way. Thanks Joe and Christine.

After 3 months of almost daily use I can say this bag is incredible. Our shop recently started doing veneer work so that we could start using some exotics and burls. Now some of our customers are asking for table tops and carcass work in bubinga, wenge, and anigre so I'm back to buy two different size bags. We're very satisfied with this bag and highly recommend it.

These bags are a good deal considering the quality of the material itself. The polyurethane is somewhat flexible and I've never had a problem with glue sticking to it. I own two Extreme vacuum bags and two Elite bags. My Elite bags have been thoroughly tortured for a couple of years with some wickedly shaped clock cases and chair backs. Both bags are very good for veneering and bent laminations over the forms. You'll find that the customer service here is excellent. The owner answers questions quickly and he is good at engaging people to make sure he understands their project before he suggests products from this website. I've never had a bad experience with this company.

I am building cabinets. I use this bag 30 or 40 times a week. It has held up great over the past 6 months. The only complaint is I should have got a bigger one ;)

You got to admit that this is a great price for a 30 mil polyurethane vacuum bag. I've seen them online for more than $400 for the same size. Joe sent me the bag a few weeks ago and I've been using it for veneering antique piano legs which have a fairly complex shape. The bag has held up perfectly and so far, so good - the legs have all turned out nicely.
The only issue I've found is that it takes a bit of muscle to get the closure attached. Joe mentioned that this would ease up over time and honestly, I'd rather it be tight than loose anyhow. Otherwise, this bag is a real workhorse and for the price, its probably one of the best purchases that I've made for my shop.

Joe shipped this bag to me a few weeks ago after we had sent several emails to each other discussing which bag was right for my projects. I do a lot of epoxy resin work for boats and I needed a durable vacuum bag that could take anything I threw at it. Each time I sent an email, I got a quick reply. Joe really extolled the values of this bag. We both agreed that for my type of use, this heavy duty version (called Extreme) of the Elite bag style series was best.
I've been using my bag a lot this week and thought it would be a good time to write a review as my way of saying thanks to Joe for all of the help. So far, I've completed 40 curved fiberglass shelves, 20 doors, and at least 100 angle brackets in my bag (using a salvaged vacuum pump). Despite the mess I've made, the bag still looks new and shows not a hint of failure. For the money, I dont think there is a better vacuum bag available.
