The VS Elite™ vacuum bagging material has been designed for VeneerSupplies.com using an advanced thermoplastic polyurethane that can withstand pressures exceeding 3,750 PSI and stretch more than 6 times its width and length*. Our polyurethane film has superior resilience and unmatched puncture resistance. Made in the USA.
Each bag is welded with a state-of-the-art custom RF welding machine operating at 7,000 watts and 50 lb/in of pressure. This exact combination of frequency and clamp strength yields the most durable and airtight seam available. Each bag then undergoes a series of inspections, including a final check that I do prior to shipment.
Critical Information: Updated Stem Fitting
Our vacuum bags now come with a new style brass stem that works with the new lock-on connector included with all vacuum press kits purchased after February 10, 2020. The new lock-on connector and the required barb fitting for vacuum press systems purchased before the update can be ordered here.
*Elongation and breaking strength based on ASTM D412 test method.

Product Notes
Breather Mesh Option
Be sure to order breather mesh with your vacuum bag. It eliminates the need for a grooved top platen board, which can often be heavy and difficult to set over a project panel. The mesh prevents the trapping of air pockets inside the bag that cause veneer bubbles, and it makes it much easier to remove any glue that seeps through the veneer face. Learn more about breather mesh on this page of the JoeWoodworker website.
Free Shipping on 24" x 48" Breather Mesh
The shipping charge for breather mesh can be quite expensive, but we have a way to save you some money. There is no additional shipping charge on breather mesh when ordered along with a vacuum bag using the option menu above. This discount does not apply if the mesh is ordered from the product page.
How do I attach my vacuum tube to this bag?
Our lock-on connector is required to connect a vacuum tube to this vacuum bag. This connector is included with all of our vacuum press kits.
Do I need a top and bottom platen for the vacuum bag?
A bottom platen is required for flat panel work. Most large home centers offer 3/4" thick melamine board, which works very well. The bottom platen does not need to have grooves cut into it. Breather mesh placed over the veneer panel is typically easier than using a top platen - which can be heavy and awkward. Breather mesh also makes it easier to remove glue bleed-through on the veneer.
How large should I make the bottom platen?
The platen should match the nominal size of the bag. In other words, if you have a 4' x 6' vacuum bag, then the bottom platen should be 48" x 72".
Can I put a small project in a large vacuum bag?
Yes. There is no harm using a large bag to press a small project.
If I use a large vacuum bag for a small project, do I need to seal off the unused area inside?
No. Generally speaking, there isn't much "loose" or "free" air inside the unused part of a vacuum bag. If you are using a large bag for a small project, there is not much to be gained by closing off the unused area with a secondary bag closure.
Can I press multiple projects in a single bag at the same time?
Yes. Small panels can be set side by side in a large vacuum bag. Use breather mesh over each panel instead of a top platen. You can also stack identical sized projects on top of one another if a piece of wax paper is placed between them. This will prevent glue squeeze-out from bonding the panels to each other. Be careful not to stack so many panels inside that it causes the bag seams to pull apart.
Does the vacuum bag have to stay connected to the vacuum press after full vacuum is achieved?
Yes. This is because a perfect seal on a vacuum bag is virtually impossible. Here are some things to consider...
If the vacuum system is disconnected from the bag, you won't know if there is a leak because there is no vacuum gauge in/on the bag. With the bag connected to a vacuum press system, the vacuum level is visible on the system gauge. The vacuum inside the system is the same amount of vacuum inside the bag. If the vacuum press cycles on and off frequently during a project pressing, a leak can be recognized and then fixed. However, if the leak can not be immediately repaired, then at least the system can try to maintain the correct vacuum level in the bag until the panel is finished.
Can I use this bag with a vacuum press from a different company?
To use this vacuum bag with a vacuum press from another manufacturer, you may simply need to remove the existing connector on the vacuum tube and replace it with our "new" style lock-on connector.
Does epoxy stick to this polyurethane material?
I have experimented with our polyurethane material using several brands of epoxy, and it released from the test samples without issue. However, I've received differing opinions about this from our customers, and my guess is that it depends on the type of epoxy, how much epoxy comes in contact with the material, and how often the vacuum bag is used in this capacity.
One of our customers recently wrote...
"We're using West epoxy, and have had zero problems with the material sticking to the bags. Just pops right off. We're using it neat, and also with microfiber thickeners, and I can say there's no need to worry about sticking with West epoxy and these polyurethane bags." - Kenny Delapp, Albuquerque Joinery
Do you offer samples of this polyurethane material?
Yes. Please click here for details.
What else should I know about the bag?
The maximum project size that is listed for this bag is approximate. It may vary by one inch due to tolerances in the manufacturing process. The maximum project size also depends on the total thickness of the platen and project. The usable size of the project panel can be maximized by using breather mesh instead of a top platen. It is critically important to avoid using a platen that is too large for the bag, which will cause the seams to pull apart.

This bag is durable, and very easy to set up with the Excel 3 vacuum system. I've been able to restore veneer that was seriously bucked to perfect flatness and it's now stored ready for the next project. The veneer softener I purchased from Veneer Supplies was also extremely helpful.

I have been using the 2x4 bag for panels and it works great. It is flexible, easy to use, and with the mesh not showing too many creases. For the price, it is hard to beat.

Given that I knew nothing about vacuum pressing prior to ordering this bag I must say that I was pleased as punch.
The bag *feels* high quality. This thing is thick, durable, and feels heavy duty. This is not the pool-floaty rubber that I was worried I'd be receiving. This is legitimate.
The closure system was a delightful discovery. I assumed that I'd be messing around with the double sided sticky tape goopy stuff but the ClampyPipeyTubey solution is perfect. It's not messy and you can redo it as much as you want.
I learned that the bag stem needs to be spaced away from the opposite side of the bag otherwise the vacuum pulls against the other side and you get a poor result.* I now just chuck a piece of scrap wood in the bag to sit underneath the stem and the bag vacuums out perfectly every time.
I use this 2x4' bag with the mesh netting, but I also built a platen to act as a base for my projects. The platen was sanded smooth as glass and I rounded the corners to prevent damage to the bag. I put some runners of low-friction tape on the bottom of the batten which is enough to provide an air gap and slide the batten in and out with the project on top. It's helpful to plan ahead on how you're going to put your project in the bag. Do a few dry-runs!
[Note from Joe: You can use a small piece of breather mesh to "bridge" the space between the bag stem and the project/mesh. There is a picture of this on the breather mesh page.]

I love this poly bag! I purchased the 2' x 2' vinyl bag earlier, and needed a larger vacuum bag and decided to try the polyurethane. The vinyl bag is very nice, but wow, this poly bag is so much nicer! So much easier to work with and to store away. I am definitely a convert. It is worth the extra $ compared to vinyl, IMO. As always, shipping was prompt and the packaging is safe and secure.

A definite upgrade from my old vinyl bag. I really appreciate the extra flexibility of the polyurethane bag. I'm very pleased with my purchase! I will buy more!

I bought this 2' x 4' bag because I'm so sick of struggling with smaller pieces in my 4'’ x 8' bag. But what an improvement! This one uses a much easier sealing mechanism. My old bag is zip-lock and it’s almost impossible to get it zipped up. I really love this bag. Thanks Joe!!

I should have done this sooner. After a few years of using clamps, LOTS of clamps, I finally bought the polyurethane bag to make side and back panels for a six drawer dresser. I veneered paper backed walnut on both sides of baltic birch panels. I have 8 flawless panels.

Used this bag to press some cabinet end caps with paper-backed walnut. It replaces an old shop-made vinyl bag that has seen much use in the last 8 years. It holds a vacuum perfectly with the supplied closure; my pump didn't cycle once after the initial draw-down. I recommend this bag.
Shipping was prompt, packaging good, and delivery was quick. I recommend Joe: great service and solid advice!

I needed a smaller bag for small scale veneer work and thought I'd try one of the polyurethane bags from VeneerSupplies.com. This bag is great. Soft and very flexible. Speedy shipping from Joe at VeneerSupplies.com and great prices.

Another great product from Joe and Christine! I purchased the 2 X 4 VS Elite bag from Joe, mostly for custom guitar work, but I am a guy with many hobbies and interests, so it will be used for a great many other things as well, furniture, custom automotive interiors, molds and modeling, etc. Joe's description of his products are always accurate, and this one is no exception. A 1st quality product all the way. I always turn to Joe for my project needs. Unlike some of the larger outfits out there, Joe's small family run business takes pride in handling customers on a personal level, while still maintaining great quality and price at a competitive level.

Best bag I ever bought. Has a great hookup system when used with the locking connector, that is easily removed and stays put once attached. Heat welded seam is also great. Put vacuum to the bag and vacuum pump shut off so quick I couldn't believe it was already at pressure. Quick delivery and fair price. Will buy again from this company!

This is an extremely durable product. I've put my bag through some serious stress & it still holds a great seal overnight. I would highly recommend this product. I'm definitely going to be buying another larger bag!

I ordered this polyurethane vacuum bag and fittings and had a very good turnaround from Joe and his helpers. The bag arrived at my house 6 days after I placed my order, and everything was in good shape. I haven't used the bag yet, but my experience of the ordering and delivery service was first rate. This was my first order with VeneerSupplies.com but I'll be back when I need some new material.

Several years ago I purchased from VeneerSupplies.com a 4x8 vinyl vacuum bag. I just purchased a 2x4 20 mil polyurethane bag and the thinner .021 breather mesh. The differences in flexibility, stretch and overall handling were dramatic. I would strongly suggest using this combination. The increased price is well worth it. Before the new bag, I was sometimes hesitant to take out the large, stiff bag/mesh but now, even for relatively small projects that before I would have been tempted to use clamps and cauls, I’ll use my vacuum bag.
As in my previous orders and several emailed questions in the past, Joe has always been very quick to respond.

I bought this smaller bag so I wouldn't have to set up my 4x6 foot vinyl bag for smaller projects. The flexibility makes it easier to shape around bent wood laminations and complex glue ups, in addition to flat veneer projects. Although the vinyl works fine, the poly is much nicer to work with.
Confession time: I built a fairly large curved form to make 1/4 of a 6 foot diameter table apron. I didn't close the "back" (flat side) of the arc. The bag sucked into the inside of my plywood form, but DID NOT BREAK!. (I fixed the form before doing the other three sections.) I don't recommend this abuse, and may someday patch the bag to hide my embarrassing error, but the bag survived, as did my project. Super bag!

The bag is very good quality. It is very thick and durable. It provides a fair amount of flexibility to contour to the work piece. The 2'x4' size meets most of my needs and is used the most frequent of any of my bags.
The only downside is that these are expensive. I have sourced other material to custom make larger and different sized bags when there is a need. The other bags are not as durable but they are very cheap in comparison. They are made to last through a handful of uses and then thrown out.
All in all I recommend buying these high quality bags in the size you'll be using the most and than source other material for oddball pressing jobs.

I'm not a professional woodworker but I do a lot of woodworking in my shop. My veneer bag is used at least once a week and a lot of this work is curved so the bag is really being tortured. I would estimate that my bag has completed more than 80 projects and so far, it still works and looks like new. I also use a urea resin glue for my work and so far, any drippage that got onto the bag has easily peeled right off.

These bags are awesome! I own the 2'X4' and the 4'X9' and they do not disappoint. I recently updated my entire system to these bags and one of Joe's 5.5cfm pumps and my veneering has gone to a new level. At a trade show I bought the model from a competitor that he shows on his site and the difference is night and day. In the past it was difficult to get adequate pressure over a 3/4" round over but those days are gone now and I can not wait to try more complicated glue-ups. Thanks again Joe!
