Walnut Burl Wood Veneer

cat-walnut-burl-better.jpgWalnut burl is a classic beauty. It is used on everything from fine furniture to automobiles. The rich brown color is frequently accented with a light coat of penetrating stain which brings out the figure in these wood veneer sheets. Walnut is one of only a handful of species that lightens with exposure to UV light. Vintage walnut furniture pieces are usually very warm in color. This lightening process can take a couple of weeks to several years to fully develop.

Did You Know?   Walnut burl comes usually from the root bole of walnut trees, where a large ball often occurs. This is most common on orchard trees, which are northern California walnut (Juglans hindsii) with the nut producing English walnut (Juglans regia) grafted to it. Some burl may also be found at the graft line of these trees. The burls are sustainably harvested when the trees are removed to replant the orchard.

Tip from Joe

I've found that cell phones and tablets display reasonably accurate colors of our veneer photos.

Rendering variations on some computer monitors can cause our pictures to appear different from the actual veneer.
