Golden Teak Wood Veneer

Golden Teak Veneer

We believe this species is commonly called "golden teak" due to its warm brown color. It has a bit of resemblance to Burmese teak that has been exposed to sunlight. The growth rings have a very subtle color variation as you can see in the pictures below. The texture is not as coarse as Burmese teak. In fact the smoothness of the grain is part of what makes this veneer so appealing.

Common Name:
  Golden Teak, Gambhari
Scientific Name:
  Gmelina arborea
Golden brown with slighly darker growth lines
  Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam
  Very hard
Readily accepts non-water-based stains and can be top-coated with oil based polyurethane, lacquer, and tung oil. Oil based finishes take longer to dry. Water based finishes are often problematic due to the oily/resinous nature of the wood.
Did You Know:
Due to the oily nature of teak, we suggest wiping the veneer surface with naphtha before gluing.

Tip from Joe

I've found that iPhones and iPads display reasonably accurate colors of our veneer photos.
Rendering variations on some computer monitors can cause our pictures to appear different from the actual veneer.
