This veneer came from a "freak" etimoe tree. We have seen odd etimoe logs in the past but it is the first time with one having this light to medium brown tone and the darker streaks running along the grain. I've been told that it is often misrepresented as koa through I don't know why since the colors are different. Etimoe is one veneer that doesn't show its true character until a top coat is applied. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Etimoe was just one step away from being classified as endangered but since 1998, steps have been taken to reduce logging and increase planting of this species in many parts of Africa. Luckily, etimoe numbers are on the rise according to a recent study of rain forest woods. This is largely due to a rise in the prices of this species in the timber trade. |
