For complicated and fussy veneer seams, you can't beat this 3M painters tape. I use this 3/4" wide clean release tape to hold the underside of two veneers together while I prepare the regular veneer tape for the face side. After the brown tape starts to set, I remove the blue tape and allow the veneers to dry before placing it in the vacuum press.
While it is undeniably expensive, 60 yards (one roll) goes a long, long way. You can also find this tape in the paint aisle of your local hardware store.

Ok so I'm not using this tape for veneering but I've been buying 10 rolls at a time from this site for nearly 2 years. The price here's beats any local hardware store.

This is a sweet deal. I wanted to leave a simple review of the tape so other users would know that, as Joe mentions, it is also available in hardware stores. BUT... I found the same tape to be twice as expensive at every store where I found it. For instance, Home Depot carries the tape and its $3.99... the kicker is that is only 30 yards. The tape offered on this website is twice as long! I bought 5 rolls here just to have for my next painting job in the house.
