Imbuya Burl Wood Veneer

Imbuya Burl VeneerOne sniff and you'll know this species! The spicy aroma is unforgettable and is so strong that it is often called "imported stinkwood". I would not call it stinky but the fragrance is striking. None the less, this is a gorgeous burl veneer with an unusual color and a well-exposed shimmer. This species has become very popular on high end furniture over the last decade. We expect prices to sky-rocket within the next 2 years.

Common Name:
Imbuya, Imbuia, Brazilian Walnut, Embuia, Imported Stinkwood (!)
Scientific Name:
  Phoebe porosa
Medium to dark brown with hints of green
  South Brazil, Sao Paolo
  Primarily hard
  Coarse texture
  Readily accepts stains and finishes
Ddi You Know:
The imbuya tree grows at altitudes of 2,500 to 4,000 feet above sea level in the Araucaria rain forests. Though there is a good supply of imbuya lumber and veneer in the US, prices are rapidly increasing as the Brazilian government continues to restrict logging of this species.
